SLAAM Hosts 9 Years in Style

The reputable, prestigious and most consistent SLAAM Awards has produced another resounding and dignified event on June 7, 2024 The 9th edition of the Sierra Leone Association of Artists and Musicians (SLAAM) Awards 2024 was held at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Maryland, USA, in a grand ceremony graced by prominent Sierra Leoneans from all walks of life.

The Maiden presentation of the U.S. President Joe Biden Lifetime Achievement Award in collaboration with Save the Nation, a non for profit organization that is founded by Amb Min Giileh and husband Dr Solomon Scholz was the highlight of the night. Presented by fellow board member Pastor David Vandy and Program director Sis Cordelia Sankoh. The Awards were presented to two reciepient organizations whose assistance to the development of Sierra Leone has been immense Mission 195 and education for Hope.

The lifetime honorees, legendary comedian Kinie Brima of professionals, renowned dramatist Mohamed Mansary (MOBB) and prolific award winning athlete Felix Sandy were all in attendance to accept their awards.

SLAAMs 2024 Presidents Choice were a well vetted unique breed of professionals whose accomplishments were beyond admirable as role models in their fields of service. Ms Yvonne E. Clark a beacon of humanitarian service to the world. Ms Alimatu B. Sangari-Sammarie, whose unfailing efforts in education, healthcare and mission work in Sierra Leone has made a mark in the lives of our future generations. Amb Dr. Ekundayo Walton Gilpin whose leadership methodology has stood the test of time, And excelled coupled with humanitarian services. Mr Joseph Musa, who wholeheartedly applied finesse to his knowledge in engineering with global recognition from NIH, tagging him as a professional and exception to the norm. All of who were in attendance.

Special headline guest artists were the legendary Yok 7 along with Sierra Leone’s loved songstress Rozzy Sokota, who together gave a redention of some of their most popular songs. The event had the honor of International award winning Kenyan gospel singer Janet Otieno who flew in just for the awards, with Sierra Leone’s exceptional cultural fire dancer Stickman, Sis Cordelia Sankoh, and many more . All spear head and led that night by phenomenal MCs King Milan Bangura of SLBCs Musical Mix and award winning actress Winstina Taylor.

The nomination and voting process was overseen by the SLAAM Planning Team to ensure that only the best candidates are considered for the awards. Over the past eight years, the event has seen significant participation, with 300k votes cast in six days on the event website in 2023, and this year amidst unavoidable technical glitches
